The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Pre-School at Hamilton Russel Vineyards
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Pre-School, located at Hamilton Russell Vineyards, offers high-quality early childhood education to underprivileged children in the local farm community. As a registered ECD and NPO, it relies on donations and fundraising to help children build their confidence and skills, the foundation they need to thrive academically and personally.
Just Care Hermanus
Just Care is a children’s charity based in Hermanus, founded in memory of educator John Rathfelder. It operates an after-school care centre in Mount Pleasant, offering meals, homework support, sports, and life skills to more than 100 children. The programme’s popularity continues to grow and reflects a deeper community spirit and the positive impact this has on many young lives.
Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen
The Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen, also known as the Maria Pieterse Soup Kitchen, is a community-driven initiative in Hermanus that provides daily meals and care packages to around 200 vulnerable adults and children. Founded by Maria-Anita Pieterse, the kitchen began humbly, cooking on a two-plate gas hob in her bedroom, and has since grown exponentially, thanks to local support.
Sonstraltjies Creche in Hawston
Established in 1975, Sonstraltjies Creche is a long-standing Early Childhood Development centre in Hawston. It serves over 50 young learners with support from a handful of dedicated staff members. As a registered non-profit organisation, Sonstraltjies provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can develop their cognitive, emotional, and social skills.
St Carol Baby Nappies Programme
A cause close to our hearts is the St Carol Baby Nappies Programme, a small but impactful community initiative. This volunteer-run program provides essential baby nappies and hygiene supplies to new mothers. Through monthly distributions and hands-on support, the project helps ease the financial burden for young families and gives babies a healthier, more comfortable start to life.
Siyazama Service Centre for the Aged
The Siyazama Service Centre for the Aged is a non-profit organisation based in Zwelihle. It provides daily meals, light exercise, and social support to senior citizens. Founded by community leader Nellie Tbele, the centre also offers home-based care through its “Food on Feet” programme, delivering meals and assistance to elderly residents that are unable to travel.
Izibusiso Foster Home
Izibusiso Foster Home is a non-profit care facility in Zwelihle supporting abandoned and vulnerable babies and children up to six years old. Founded in 2009 by Hermanus Child Welfare and the United Church, it became independent in 202. It now operates two family-style houses that provide love, stability, and medical care until long-term placements are arranged.
RAD Animal Welfare
RAD – Rescued Animal Drive is a non-profit animal welfare organisation primarily serving Botrivier and Grabouw. Their focus is on underserved communities. They have a strong emphasis on sterilisation campaigns, subsidised veterinary care, and ongoing animal welfare education. They also promote responsible care and follow-ups with pet owners.
